In summer 2021, Mariia Starchak went on a “retreat” to her parents` house located in Potelych village, 70 kilometers away
from Lviv. It was there that the designer felt and reconsidered the meaning of the land and family belonging. Yet, time does
not stand still, and everything changes. And only in a dream can you return home, where everything will be as before. And
those who are no longer with us will be there.
“The special spirit of my place of power impelled the creation of my new collection, based on ethnics and modern
interpretation. Hence, there is the combination of Hutsul carpets and strict suits, quaint ties and business pants, casual
androgyny and pronounced masculinity” says Mariia.
Remarkably, every carpet has its story. For instance, one of them was used to… cover potatoes! The artist turned each
item, befell by similar fate, into the knotting in the macramé technique. That is how the “carpet - dress” transformation arose.
The designer continues working with upcycling and architecting, making new senses for the clothing with history. Only
materials with all-natural fabric content – wool, viscose, and cotton – are used for the makeover. The color palette choice is
driven by nostalgia and vivid memories: black, grey, and chocolate-brown complement vibrant shades of woolen carpets
and silky ties. All DRIMÓTA items have no gender.
The lookbook was shot near the old house where the designer's family lived, in particular, grandmother the tailor. The
collection itself is dedicated to her dad, who loved ties, his white “Lada” car, and Mariia.
